Mazin Wajih was born in Baghdad in the 1960’s and after completing high school in Iraq moved to the UK in 1980 to attend University. In the 1990’s he established Harlow International and went on to win a series of high profile awards. These included being ranked 69th in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 Companies (achieving 78% growth in the first year) and winning the Financial Mail ‘Enterprise 2000’ award.

In 2003 he returned to Baghdad with Harlow International and won contracts supporting a number of high profile sites including the construction of foreign embassies, government buildings and the refurbishment and hotel management of the first 5 Star international hotel in Baghdad.

Thanon Hamza

Senior Project Manager, Harlow International

Originallyfrom Iraq, Thanon graduated from the University of Mosul in 1987 with a Degree in Civil Engineering. His career spans 28 years in engineering and construction in various executive positions within private construction firms.

Thanon is now the head of engineering for the Harlow International group of companies managing all contracts, engineering, and construction activities of the company. He has been involved in the development of the British Embassy in Baghdad, the refurbishment of Al-Rasheed Hotel (5-star) in Baghdad, the refurbishment of the Prime Minister’s and other high-ranking government offices, the construction of base camp for the 100,000 housing units under the National Investment Commission at Bismayah, and currently the reconstruction of the Airbase in Suwayrah.

Riyadh Wajih

Director of Procurement, Harlow International

Riyadh achieved a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from the UK. He has a vast experience in industrial automation and construction with more than 17 years’ worth of comprehensive business skills, negotiation and purchasing.
After relocating to the UAE he worked with blue chip companies for 8 years in the UK within oil and gas before joining Harlow International in 2006 as an operational manager to facilitate everyday operation. He has witnessed the growth of the company over the years.

Mohammed Karaa

Chief Financial Officer, Harlow International

A senior Arabic speaker finance professional with over 20 years of experience in public practice, manufacturing, petroleum, media,construction life support companies in North America, UK, Iraq, Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia & China. Mr. Karaa is designated charted accountant from Canada (CPA), UK (ACCA), and has an MBA from Kellogg HKUST business school.


Director, Al Murabit and Al Thaware Security Services

Simon Barry came to Iraq to establish the Op Matrix US Reconstruction oversight contract in 2004; at that time the largest security contract in history. In 2005 he ran the Iraq Referendum and Elections security and logistic oversight project for the UN. Since then, as well as in Iraq, he has worked extensively in Africa for blue chip companies like Rio Tinto, De Beers, and also Far East. He holds an MSc in Risk Management. 32 years in the British Army’s Parachute Regiment was concluded by a post in the MoD Air Operations Branch managing air support to Airborne and Special Forces, after having been Regimental Colonel. Previous service includes several operational theatres, 48 Gurkha Infantry Brigade as Chief of Staff and formation of the Pathfinders.
